Businesses up and down the country are welcoming the news that the government is going ahead with the so called “Freedom Day” plans for 19th July. With some sectors finally able to reopen after almost 16 months, large scale events are go!
Events have a significant role to play
The hospitality industry has been especially hard hit throughout the pandemic, but so too has certain sectors within the business world – conferences and trade shows particularly spring to mind. The conference and B2B event sector has a significant role to play for the UK economy both in terms of showcasing the UK across the globe which leads to inward investment, and in offering a vital platform for UK businesses to export.
So the news from Boris Johnson that not only can larger scale events begin again, but they can begin with no restrictions on numbers and no social distancing requirements is very welcome.
Proceeding with caution
But… and there is a but.
Organisers are reticent to move without clearer guidance on how exactly to proceed. Simply opening up again without it could be deemed to be incredibly risky – and open up organisers to a whole host of issues should cases arise as a result of attendance at an event. Organisers are determined to implement everything it possibly can to ensure the safety of customers and employees, and are committed to enhancing hygiene and infection control measures to ensure business meetings and events venues are as safe as possible.
And organisers haven’t been sitting on their laurels for the last year. Much has been done to prepare for the post-covid conference world, with huge amounts of risk assessment and planning around running a safe event.
Slow start but gaining traction
It’s no doubt going to be a tentative transition period for organisers and delegates alike, but here at Fiona Shipley we’ve already been contacted by a few of our clients for our conference transcription services, which is very encouraging.
Events such as AGMs which have a legal requirement to run annually are already booked in and we anticipate this will only increase over the coming months as businesses begin to plan and book these events that have been delayed for some time. Even those who were forced by the timing of event restrictions to run AGMs that could go ahead within the covid-19 restrictions are looking forward to being able to return to much more of a “business as usual” approach.
Transcription for your event is a must!
Whether it’s transcription for your AGM, is part of running a more effective business meeting or is a value-add for your conference, offering a bigger bang for your buck is especially important after the huge pressures of this last year.
We’re encouraging all businesses that are planning to run a larger scale event and may require our transcription services to get in touch. We’ll talk through your needs, work out how best we can support you – whether that be recording and transcribing the event, or transcribing from your recording – and ensure that you have a lasting record of your event that lasts well beyond the closing of the venue doors.
